Evo 8
MAKE A BACKUP COPY OF YOUR PROJECT!!
Keep both X5 Versions on your computer
The IWP File
NB: Very important!! Run Evo 8 as "Administrator"
The new update Evo 8.0.15 has fixed a lot of issues and I feel that this will put Evo 8 back into the role of being one of the best web builders available. One of the fixes in this version is being able to modify animated template footers. These templates are used quite a lot at first with novices and give the appearance of a professional website incorporating the flash element. Another great fix is the option to make a backup copy in X5 v7 before submitting it to Evo 8. (This I cannot stress enough!! As I mention below "Backup" your project in X5 v7 and Evo 8 regularly)
Just load your project up in Evo 8 instead of X5 v7 and it will put everything in the correct place, ready to proceed creating your website again. Beware: This version has Modified Tables
ONCE CONVERTED YOU CAN UPLOAD YOUR WEBSITE TO YOUR/SAME SERVER
You can install Evo 8 and keep your old version as well. (NB: Keep BOTH icons on your desktop) As Evo 8 inserts a new folder in your Program Files solely for this version of the program. Also when you go and retrieve your IWP from your existing project you may notice it has changed! This is the new icon for Evo 8 projects. (See above) Evo 8 is not backwards compatible either, as more functions are available in this new version! I would suggest once you have made a "Backup" copy of your project move it into Evo 8. Then if you are not completely satisfied with this programs new features or it has altered your project in anyway not agreeable to you, there is always the choice of reverting back to X5 v7! As you delve deeper into Evo 8 you will find all sorts of "New Features"
Take timeout to read the manual? I know when I first started with X5 I didn't even look at the manual for months. But this time with Evo 8 you "NEED" to find out exactly what is incorporated!
Important Changes
There is one important change that's been made, I feel towards the advanced user. That the test/upload folder has now been hidden! This however doesn't mean you cannot edit the HTML files. They must have "Hidden" these for a reason? The files are now stored in a temporary folder (Vista - AppData / XP - Local~1) and each project you load into Evo 8 are stored in this folder (separate folders) For those that regularly clean their computer of Temp files (Junk files as they are called by some progs) these files will be deleted. So now we have established that we cannot get to the project files so easily, all I can say is this is where a HTML editor comes in handy. I suggest that you invest in CuteFTP Home 8 without a doubt. (See Exporting) However if you do not edit outside of Evo 8 and everything you do is confined within the program you have no need of a FTP Client.
As I have just described uploading outside of Evo 8 has become more difficult I would suggest reading the Exporting page more thoroughly. And now you may have already found out that Evo 8 gives you previews of the objects placed inside the pages, via a little window inside the program. So no more clicking them to find out what's inside.(Like I keep doin! Habit I guess)
There are 22 Languages in X5
Languages?
(Use Notepad to insert the Language)
What's the first thing you do when you enter a new Evo 8 project? Install the Language! Unless you are fortunate enough to already have your project in one of those languages listed above. But what if your language isn't there?
Amendments
You can install another language again in the "Langs" folder in Evo 8!
BUT?
With Evo 8 being classed as a new product and has many more features incorporated. Look inside the Language.ini file and you'll find there are now new attributes added? Three items I've noticed at the moment: Blog, Search and Captcha on the mail form. Now if you insert the language out of X5 v7 you will have to amend these yourself, by following an example of the other files already there.
Go to the forum for more languages to insert into X5!
English Language
Obviously with me being English! I have noticed inside the EN_English.ini File the days of week are wrong! You may notice if you insert the [DATE] Yes! it is [DATE] NOT [DATES] as it says in the manual, that Sunday comes up as Sub and Tuesday comes up as Thu? You will have to change this yourself by locating the file in Program Files/Website X5 v8 - Evolution.
