Choices in Exporting
When you export your website for the first time, you need to export the whole website. On the screen previous to your server you have two options, decide which one is appropriate for you.
The choice of exporting your website between the dates supplied is so that you are only uploading the alterations you made during your last amendments to the website.
Server
When you have reached your server there might be folders already on the platform, these are there to assist your website function the way it should.
When you finally click export a box opens up to show you the progress of the export. Notice during exporting ALL your HTML & CSS pages are exported as well as the structure to the website. Images and large files previously loaded are not exported.
Your pages are loaded because any links or text you alter will over write the old HTML pages on the server.
However sometimes the large files do slip through and are exported once again. This just takes longer and doesn't make any problems. Most of the time it will sail through no problem!
BUT in some cases it will stop exporting to give you an error message. This is normal and the RETRY button should be used at all times during this operation, until finally its completed exporting.
Search Engines & Your Server
A search engine scans your server every 21 days or so.
Any redundant pages on your server will be picked up and used in the search engines. This is why you should delete old files, html pages etc... Especially e-commerce websites where you delete pages in Map Creation and insert newly updated HTML pages.
If you create a new website you MUST clear your server of remnants of your old website.
You can however stop search engines from viewing your webpages, folders etc... by creating a robots.txt. This actually tells the search engine what it can and cannot do on your server.
