Basic Design

My Pointers!

I hope this will aid a lot of the new people, who are starting their websites

1. Don't use Frames, as a lot of browsers don't support them.

2. When Making, view your website from different resolutions. Try to keep your website a good size, so people who use 800x600 or higher can view it. (Laptops & Netbooks)

3. Navigation is important, try keeping all links on the sidebar or make a site map for your site.

4. Clear and Understandable Text, not much to say here. If people cannot understand your site, they will simply leave.

5. Listen to users, if you have returning visitors, you know you have something they want and you're doing to a good job. Stick a guestbook or a contact email for feedback and suggestions to your site and listen to what people have to say. You may think feedback forms and stuff are not used, but you're wrong. They are a common way most popular sites, stay popular.

6. Adverts, try and have
NONE. If you want have an advert to the side or on the top of page. NEVER have adverts get in the way of your users. Pop-ups are a big no-no. They also are really annoying.

7. Keep layouts and themes the same, from page to page. You Wouldn't like it if a website kept changing colour or moved the nav bar around the page.

8. Forums are a great way to get people coming back, but try and be active yourself.

9. Remember your target audience, in other words, who are you making this website for? If your target audience is Male Teenagers, your not going to have a pretty pink website with flowers all over the place. Keep themes, content and everything in your website directed to your target audience.

10. Finally and most importantly, Update and maintain your website. I recommend you update at least twice a week. And check your emails regularly!

Also, "enjoy" and have "fun" making your website!
